Professional Experience
30 years as marine geologist at the German Geological Survey investigating heavy-mineral deposits, manganese nodules, hydrothermal sulfides and phosphorites, coordinator for the German participation in the Ocean Drilling Programme (ODP/IODP), head of the Department of Geological and Geophysical Research, after retirement lecturing on marine resources at the Hannover University, scientific adviser for MARUM, investigating the delta of the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta. Investigation of the coastal archaeology of salt-producing kilns in the Ganges-Brahmaputra Delta. Scientific advisor for the Bangladesh /Myanmar Law-of-the-Sea negotiations. Advisor for the scientific branch of the Bangladesh Navy. Member of the editorial board of MINERALS.
