Research

I am interested in global biogeochemical cycles and their modulation over time - both in Earth history and contemporary ecosystems. I am working on the cycles of carbon, iron and phosphorus in open water and sediment, and seek for microbial signatures of criticial transformations.
My research routine includes bench-scale incubation experiments, environmental sampling, geochemical analyses and analytical and numerical modelling. I am particularly fond of stable and radioisotope tracing techniques, as they provide elegant tools to discover microbial transformations of nutrients in the environment.

I am part of the MARUM Inorganic Geochemistry Lab. In MARUM project GB1, my research is about the fluxes and transformations of iron and phosphorus in the water column, the benthic boundary layer, and the sediment surface.
