New positions after PhD for Dr. Chris Daly and Dr. Ehsan Jorat

Dr. Chris Daly got a new position as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Coastal Engineering at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.
 
Dr. Ehsan Jorat started his employment as Research Associate in Geotechnical Engineering at the Newcastle University, UK.

The 5th CoastDoc Workshop 2014 took place from 29 to 30 September in the framework of INTERCOAST at the MARUM in Bremen

The Workshop with the core theme “Coast and shelf-sea: current research and future challenges” offered a forum for exchange and discussion for PhD students and early career scientists with backgrounds in coastal geoscience and engineering. Participants from research institutions in Germany, Lithuania and the UK had the opportunity to present and discuss their latest findings in an interdisciplinary framework. Presentation topics covered numerical, experimental and field studies investigating coastline morphology, sediment dynamics, sea level changes and climate patterns.
The workshop was organized by Dr. Gerhard Bartzke, Franziska Staudt, Lina Podszun, Nicole Bammann and Prof. Dr. Katrin Huhn.

Ehsan Jorat succesfully defended his thesis on 9th July 2014:

INTERCOAST congratulates Dr. M. Ehsan Jorat on his thesis defense.

The 5th Annual INTERCOAST Workshop took place in Bremen, Germany

The 5th annual IC workshop (16th to 27th of june) provided an opportunity for project leaders (supervisors) and PhD students alike to come together to reflect on past, present, and future research in the framework of the INTERCOAST programme.

"Summa cum laude" for INTERCOAST PhD Student Lisa Marquardt

INTERCOAST congratulates Dr. Lisa Marquardt on her excellent thesis
defense, which took place on 22nd April 2014. As tradition demands, many of her fellow INTERCOAST PhD students attended the defense and rewarded Lisa with a self-made dotoral hat afterwards. On the photo you can see Lisa on her big day together with her two supervisors:
Prof. Dr. Sabine Schlacke and Prof. Barry Barton.
Lisa's thesis with the title "Looking beyond the dredges: the consideration of alternatives for the planning and approval of port development in Germany and New Zealand" will soon be published as a book.
