Regional Atlantic Circulation and Global Change

Changes in the Atlantic Ocean circulation influence our climate. RACE was established to better understand the involved processes and improve our insight into the repercussions of these changes, with a focus on the European Shelf. RACE is now in its second phase, and the main objectives are:
- Improve insight into the processes that cause circulation changes on annual to decadal time scales
- Study consequences of circulation variability on the Atlantic climate system and the European Shelf
- Assess the predictability of long-term regional circulation changes and their influence on the climate system
RACE produces and uses long-term observational time series in Atlantic key regions and realistic ocean circulation models.
