Andrés Daniel Castillo Llarena

Report of GLOMAR PhD student Andrés Daniel Castillo Llarena about his participation in the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly in Vienna, Austria from 23 to 28 April 2023

Attending the EGU23 conference in Vienna provided an excellent opportunity to connect with scientists from various disciplines and regions around the world. The conference facilitated a platform for exchanging knowledge and ideas through presentations, posters, and discussions. Networking allowed me to interact with researchers in my field and learn about their research, their challenges, and their achievements. By participating in the Cryosphere branch and in particular in the Ice Sheet and Glacier modeling session, I was able to connect with researchers who were working on similar topics. I had the opportunity to discuss my work and receive valuable feedback from experts in the field, which will be helpful in the development of my research.

One of the highlights of the conference was the poster session. It was a great experience to present my research and discuss it with other researchers who showed interest in my findings. I received valuable feedback from experts in the field, which helped me to refine my ideas and identify potential avenues for future research.

Furthermore, I had the chance to attend sessions on various topics such as environmental science, geophysics, and atmospheric science. These sessions provided me with valuable insights into the interdisciplinary, and I was able to learn about new approaches and techniques that could potentially be applied in my research.

Apart from scientific benefits, networking also allowed me to make personal connections with other researchers. Meeting people from diverse cultures and backgrounds allowed me to expand my social and professional network. These connections could lead to future collaborations, joint projects, or job opportunities. Additionally, meeting fellow researchers outside of formal sessions allowed me to build relationships and find people who share similar interests and aspirations.

Vienna, as the conference venue, provided an excellent setting for scientific exchange and networking. The vibrant city offered a great atmosphere with its cultural and historical landmarks and diverse gastronomy. The city provided an ideal backdrop for discussions. Overall, attending the EGU23 conference was a valuable experience that provided me with a great opportunity to share my research, learn about other research areas, and build my professional and personal network.

In conclusion, attending the EGU23 conference was an enriching experience that allowed me to benefit from networking with researchers from different parts of the world, learning about new research areas and interdisciplinary approaches, and building valuable personal and professional connections. I would like to express my gratitude to Glomar for funding my participation in the conference. Without their support, I would not have been able to attend the conference and benefit from the experiences and connections that I made.
