Research vessel Polarstern is on a special expedition to the Arctic, starting in Tromsø (Norway). The autonomous underwater robot TRAMPER is sopposed to be tetrieved from the Arctic deep sea floor after one year of operation. The device is one of several demonstration projects of robotic systems that deep sea and space explorers have developed within the framework of the Helmholtz Alliance ROBEX and are now testing for almost three weeks under real conditions. ROBEX aims to develop new technologies for the exploration of hard-to-reach areas with extreme environmental conditions.
