In the poll for the "Science Blog of the Year 2022", the ArcTrain blog has received a special award. With this award, the jury honored the commitment of the PhD students in the project. The multilingual international blog serves as an exchange platform for young Arctic researchers from Germany and Canada from the ArcTrain project, presenting their research results and insights into the polar region to the general public.

The authors of the blog want to "open a small window into our lives". This refers not only to the research work of the PhD students, but also a look behind the scenes during stays abroad and research expeditions – and all this as generally understandable and emotional as possible. In the justification for the special prize, it says that the authors "let the emotional appeal shine through again and again, literally entering new territory every day, coping with the adverse circumstances of the polar region: Adventure Field Research." In doing so, the editors would like to honor the commitment of young researchers to science communication, their use of social media in the process, and "their skill in producing a very appealing blog with simple means that appeals to both scientists and a broad audience of readers."

ArcTrain is a German-Canadian interdisciplinary graduate program that focuses on climate change processes and impacts in the North Atlantic and Canadian Arctic.

The blog was nominated by Reiner Korbmann and his portal "Wissenschaft kommuniziert". 30 shortlisted blogs were on the ballot, each of which takes a different look at research: from the perspective of journalism, of actors and researchers, sometimes from the inside, sometimes from the outside. Thematically, the nominated sites covered archaeology, astronomy, biology and information technology, democracy, history, law, math, media, medicine, microbiology, misinformation, oceans and climate, science policy and space.
