OGGM workshop

March 29 - April 4, 2017, Spiekeroog, Germany

Summary

The 2nd OGGM workshop took place at Spiekeroog. Participating in the workshop gave me a better understanding of the current status of OGGM and an insight in the development plans for the model. During the workshop I met new people that work with OGGM and the participants that I already knew I got to know better. Beside getting to know what other were doing with the model I also presented and discussed my own work.

Activities & personal benefits

Wednesday the 29th of April I met most of the other participants of the 2nd OGGM workshop at Bremen Hbf, about half of them I had never met before. Together we traveled to Spiekeroog, a serene island without cars. After arrival, I went out for diner with all the other workshop participants. The next day many of us presented what they are currently working on. In the afternoon I also got the opportunity to present what I have been doing so far and to discuss my research plans. This was very valuable for me, it even let to discussing possibilities for future collaboration. On Friday morning more general topics that are related to the model were discussed. In the afternoon we walked along the beach and while walking we discussed more about working with OGGM. On Saturday morning the workshop continued and though the official program ended sometime around noon, some of us saw the free time as an opportunity to work together on the model. Fabien Maussion helped me that afternoon with improving some of code that I had been working on and included it in the end in OGGM. Participating in the workshop gave me a better understanding of the current status of OGGM and an insight in the development plans for the model. On Sunday we checked out of the apartments where we were staying. After a beautiful day outside I went back home again, with some extra motivation and new ideas.
