International Glaciological Society Symposium

August 14 - August 19, 2017, Boulder, Colorado, USA

Summary
The International Glaciological society held its meeting at the University of Colorado with the topic “Polar Ice, Polar Climate, Polar Change”. This was a nice opportunity for present my work on sea ice leads detection from Sentinel-1 SAR images. It was also interesting to listen other presentation and talk to people during poster session about changes in sea ice cover, climate change in polar regions and remote sensing of snow and glacier ice thicknesses.

Activities
The International Glaciological society held its meeting at the University of Colorado with the topic “Polar Ice, Polar Climate, Polar Change”. The conference started on 14 August 2017 with registration and Icebreaker followed with five days of presentations and two poster sessions. Second day of the conference was devoted to general sea ice and climate issues. A block of talks gave overview on recent studies of climate change in the Arctic and change in sea ice behavior as a consequence and evidence of the global warming. On the next days sea ice cover, ice sheets, glaciers and snow cover were discussed based both on observations (including satellite and airborne) and modeling. I had a great opportunity to make an oral presentation on my work “Lead distribution in the European Arctic derived from Sentinel-1 SAR images”. After my presentation I met people who work with the same data, but with different purpose of the study. We discussed our projects and I think this can lead to a collaboration project in the future.
