10. Deutsche Klimatagung

September 21 - 24, 2015, Hamburg, DE

The "10. Deutsche Klimatagung" took place from 21 to 24 September 2015 in the new building of the HafenCity University in Hamburg, Germany. It was a interdisciplinary conference dealing with the climate change on scales from local to global as well as communicating cli-mate research in the media. This multidisciplinary conference was divided into four sessions with nearly 100 posters and about 50 oral presentations. During the conference I had the opportunity to present my own work as a poster with the title “Holozäne Klimavariabilität im Nordatlantik: Zustandswechsel und quasi-dekadische Oszillation in einem Klimamodell" in the session "Klimawandel – global bis lokal".
This ses-sion deals with past and future climate change including global and local effects in the vari-ous components of the climate system based on paleoclimatic reconstructions, measurement data and results from global and regional climate modeling. It also includes extreme events and their predictability. This is of great relevance for my project, since my project deals with abrupt climate shift in the North-Atlantic during the Holocene including a shut down of the AMOC. Understanding the underlying process of such a extreme event could help to in-crease the its predictability.
The conference was a great possibility to meet with climate researchers from all over Germany and talk about my research. This provided an excellent opportunity to build and strengthen relationships, partake in dynamic discussions and get input from other points of view. This and the lively discussions after the presentations allowed us to broaden our scientific horizon and place our own work much better in a wider context. Also very interesting were the sessions "Klimafolgen – regional und lokal", "Klimaanpassung und Mitigation – Climate Smart”, "Klimaservice durch Partnerschaften" and "Klimakommunikation – Mediale Diskurse und Öffentlichkeit", that gave a good insight on trans-sectoral and interdisciplinary research dealing with climate change. I would like to thank ArcTrain for the financial support.
