Report of GLOMAR PhD student Junhui Xing about his participation in the DGG/EAGE Workshop in Hamburg, Germany, 9 March 2012

DGG/EAGE Workshop 2012 Geophysics for Unconventional took place on 9 March 2012, Hamburg, Germany. Geoscientists, decision makers from the upstream industry, politicians, and others interested in unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs participated in this one-day workshop. 11 invited oral presentations were given about the unconventional reservoirs and geophysical technology.

Firstly, I appreciate the support from GLOMAR to give me the opportunity to join the workshop. During this workshop, the presentation “Geophysical Methods to Quantify Gas Hydrates and Free Gas in the Shallow Subsurface: Review and Outlook” was given by Dr. Christian Berndt, which is approached to my research content. I obtained some very useful/interesting ideas to my research, and knew the new and unconventional technology. This workshop not only broadened my views about the unconventional reservoirs research, but also provided a nice chance to acquaint a few very famous geoscientists. That was very helpful and inspired me to my further PhD work.

Overall this workshop was very interesting and useful to my research. I would like to thank GLOMAR for the financial support again.
