Anna Fricke

Report of GLOMAR PhD student Anhna Fricke about her participation in a Training Workshop PRIMER v6 in Plymouth, UK, from 2-6 November 2009

The PRIMER workshop was held at the Marine Biological Association’s Citadel Hill building in Plymouth. The course was given by Prof Bob Clarke (PRIMER-E and PML), with assistance from Ray Gorley (PRIMER-E). During an intensive and laborious week we, 32 participants from all over the world, learned from the basics to the applications of statistical analysis of multivariate data, using the program PRIMER v6.

Even as the timetable was very tight, starting at 9 a.m. and finishing around 7 p.m. the course atmosphere was energetic and productive all the time. This was not at least created by the motivating and charismatic presentations of the lecturer Prof Bob Clarke himself. Also the course accompanying arrangements during coffee and lunch breaks contributed to the good atmosphere which accompanied the whole course.
Despite I already worked with an earlier version of the program before, this course was indeed very helpful for me. It gave me a better understanding of the theoretical background of multivariate statistics and opens my mind for the different possibilities of using the program. Overall the outcomes of the course will clearly positive affect the quality of my further analyses.

I highly can recommend this course to those who are using multifactorial designs and analyses and like to work with this software.

Thanks to GLOMAR I was able to participate in this workshop.
