An international team of researchers is currently investigating collapse events and their tsunami potential off the coast of the Caribbean island of Montserrat on board the research vessel METEOR on two cruise sections. Volcanoes are not only a natural hazard due to their volcanic activity, but can also sometimes collapse. The aim of the second section, led by Katrin Huhn from MARUM, is to drill marine deposits from collapsed volcanic flanks to their age and the underlying dynamics. On board is the seafloor drill rig MARUM-MeBo70.
