Fumio Inagaki is one of the world's leading scientists in geomicrobiology. He studies the relationship between geochemical processes and microbial communities in the marine subsurface. Now he is being honored with the Humboldt Foundation's Philipp Franz von Siebold Award for his achievements as a researcher and his services to the mutual understanding of culture and society in Germany and Japan.

In Bremen, Inagaki has worked closely with MARUM - Center for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University of Bremen for decades.
