A three-day workshop for young researchers, organized by the German Israeli Foundation (GIF) at MARUM, will deal with processes in the deep sea. Seafloor-forming processes along mid-ocean ridges, climate archives, hydrothermal systems, and microbial life within the ocean floor are some of the topics of the meeting. The program also includes a visit to the Bremen IODP core repository.

The aim of GIF is to bring together scientists from Germany and Israel. The "GIF Young Investigator Meeting", which runs until October 30 at MARUM, is intended to help establish networks, get to know funding opportunities and discuss ideas with established scientists in their field of research.

A total of 30 young researchers from Israel and Germany will participate in the workshop. A follow up-workshop will be held in Be'er Sheva (Israel) in April 2020.
