Prof. John Hayes died at the age of 76. He was a pioneer in organic biogeochemistry and decoded the isotopic record of organic matter to study the workings of the global carbon cycle through much of Earth history. In addition to scientific co-operation, he served MARUM as the founding director of our expert advisory board, which he led and influenced for many years. MARUM-Director Michael Schulz pays tribute to Hayes as "scientifically inspiring colleague and considerate person who has supported us with his valuable advice over many years".
