A delegation of Canadian company representatives from the maritime industry visited MARUM during a economic mission of northern Germany. The visits to Rostock, Kiel and Bremen were intended to give participants the opportunity to establish networks between industry and application-oriented research.

The delegates were particularly interested in environmental monitoring, remote sensing, underwater technologies, and autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles developed and operated by MARUM.

The visit was organized by the Canadian Embassy in Berlin under the title "Blue Economy Mission to Germany" and the National Research Council Canada. The Blue Economy is the name given to an economic field dedicated to the sustainable use of the marine environment - especially marine resources - and a circular economy.
