The University of Bremen and MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences of the University of Bremen are hosting the twelfth "International Conference on Climatic and Biotic Events of the Paleogene" (CBEP12).

From August 22 to 25, 2022, the focus will be on the Paleogene, a geological time interval (from 66 to about 23 million years ago) with characteristic climate changes that include global greenhouse conditions and provide essential aspects for assessing current climate warming. Climate archives from the geologic past help determine how climate conditions might change in the future.

Researchers have met in a different location every three years since 1989. The CBEP conference series is organized by a community of scientists who conduct research on the Paleogene. They exchange current and innovative ideas on paleogene Earth systems. For the conference in Bremen, the organizing team expects over 100 researchers from 18 nations.
