Alumni E-Mail Service

MARUM offers its former employees a free e-mail service. The main purpose of this service is to provide a tool you can use to receive e-mails that are sent to your former @marum.de address. This can be especially relevant if you published papers as corresponding author and would like to be available for people who try to contact you via your former @marum.de address.

The alumni e-mail service includes a free e-mail address in the domain marum-alumni.de and an e-mail box on the MARUM servers.

Please note that you can only have either an employee e-mail address (@marum.de) OR an alumni address (@marum-alumni.de). This means that you cannot have an alumni address while you still have a guest contract!

To apply for a MARUM alumni e-mail address, please use the application form or send an e-mail to [Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript].

Receiving e-mails sent to your former @marum.de address

Forwarding from marum.de to marum-alumni.de

It is possible that we will leave your @marum.de e-mail address activated for receiving emails until further notice. Incoming e-mails will then automatically be forwarded to your @marum-alumni.de mailbox. For legal reasons it is no longer possible to send e-mails under your @marum.de e-mail address once your contract with MARUM ended. Please use your @marum-alumni.de address for this purpose.

Please note that e-mails sent to your former @marum.de address will not be automatically forward to your @marum-alumni.de address. This process needs to be started manually. Please tick the respective box in the application form if you would like to have your e-mails forwarded as described above.

Keeping your @marum.de e-mail box

If you opt for automatic forwarding of your @marum.de e-mails to your @marum-alumni.de mailbox, please note that your old e-mails / e-mail folders will NOT be forwarded automatically to your new mailbox. If you would like to keep those, you need to forward them manually while your @marum.de address is still active!

Forwarding e-mails to external addresses

If you would like to automatically forward e-mails that were sent to your @marum.de or @marum-alumni.de addresses to an external address, you can set up a self service in the webmailer. The settings can be found at https://groupware.marum-alumni.de/ under Settings => E-mail => Forwarding.

Please note that automatic forwarding of e-mails has all kinds of issues regarding data security and feasability. It is therefore not recommended! We recommend to add your @marum-alumni.de account to your e-mail programme instead (see configuration details).
