Sedimentary architecture of submarine fan lobe under gravity flows and bottom currents in the Rovuma Basin offshore East Africa

Bottom currents have flowed northward along the East African margin, leading to the development of extensive contourite drifts in the Mozambique Basin and in the Mozambique Channel. The purpose of this study is to analyze the stacking patterns, morphology and connectivity features of different hierarchical lobe architectures using 3-D seismic and well data, and to discuss the potential role of bottom currents in their development. The study area is located in the Rovuma Basin, offshore northern Mozambique, which is an area where mixed turbidite-contourite systems have already been identified. This work will process a fine characterization of the lobe architecture in a system affected by bottom currents, which can guide the study of its depositional pattern in similar cases.
