Research interest

My research is about the interpretation of different coastal geomorphologies, for example beach deposits or tidal notches, which are used as paleo sea-level indicators. These indicators are used to determine the sea-level elevation during past interglacials (e.g. MIS 5e). My main interest is the relationship between the local hydrodynamic condition during the time of formation of these indicators and the resulting geomorphology. By using different wave and tide inputs to hydrological and morphological models (Delft3D, CShore), I am investigating the possible resulting morphologies under modern and paleo conditions. The results are used for the better determination of paleo sea-level elevations through the interpretation of paleo sea level indicators, which in turn is important for the predictions of future sea-level rise. Furthermore, I am collecting new data on paleo sea levels at different field sites by utilizing high-precision GPS and, together with my colleagues, building a global database of published MIS 5e sea-level data.
