ROSINA

The profiling particle camera ROSINA is a highly flexible and modular system and, thus, able to address a range of different research questions related to the biological carbon pump and organic matter transport and transformation. The system consists of a measurement unit and a control unit. The measurement unit is a stainless-steel frame with all components for the in-situ measurement consisting of the optical system (camera, lenses and light sources), computing unit, stand-alone CTD, battery and telemetry. All components of the measurement unit are rated to a depth of at least 4000 m. Since the system is equipped with telemetry the operator is able to observe the measurement and make changes via the control unit during deployment. Furthermore, online processing of images can be activated to get particle information online during the profile. The control unit consists of the telemetry, which provides the communication interface and power for the measurement unit, and an operator workstation consisting of a KVM console, PCs, NAS and Ethernet switch.
