Career Opportunities for Postdocs in Germany: in and outside academia

Objectives
‘How long is your contract?’ is probably the most asked question among postdocs and most of us want to shape their career, be it within or outside academia. The ‘Career opportunities in Germany’ day aims to provide an overview of potential career pathways for postdocs. In the morning, we focus on academic career possibilities, including recent developments at Bremen University/MARUM.

In the afternoon, we will target towards career opportunities outside academia. Indeed, for most of us, career pathways outside academia are rather unknown or difficult to imagine. Yet, many of us may end up there. We will give the floor to two invited speakers from companies convinced that postdocs have skills that are handy beyond academia. They will provide the information and support we need in order to better sell ourselves and our academic skill-set during a job-interview, how to successfully reach out towards a company, and how to rebrand your curriculum vitae.
