Gas Hydrate Research
Investigations of naturally occuring gas hydrates and methane are an overall focus at MARUM at the University of Bremen. In this context the joint project 'SUGAR' is funded as part of the national program 'Schifffahrt und Meerestechnik im 21. Jahrhundert' since 01. Juli 2008.
In the frame of the former projects OMEGA (2000-2003) and METRO (2004-2007) two autoclave corers, the MultiAutoklav Corer (MAC) and the dynamic autoclave piston corer (DAPC) had been developed and finished. Within project SUGAR the seafloor drill rig (MeBo) developed at MARUM, as well as our autoclave technology will be modified and amplified.
