Research goal of SeaPump
The goal of SeaPump is to understand the interactions between the marine food web and sinking aggregates. These interactions are studied in different regions and at different seasons to to assess the impact of changing food web structure and composition on the biological pump. We are both focussing on small-scale studies of processes affecting individual aggregates and large-scale studies of all aggregates settling through the whole water column.
The overall goal of SeaPump is to construct a forecasting model which can simulate export fluxes for different food web structures and compositions for the present and future ocean.
