Workshop for early/not-so-early career Postdocs and late-stage PhD students with an interest in staying in academia
Introduction / Career options
An introduction on the possible career opportunities in German academia, aimed to cover both the conventional and out-of-the-box options.
A workshop led by Dr. Monika Clausen on career development in science. Detailed information to follow later.
Development and funding opportunities
An overview of funding schemes available from the end of your PhD towards a PI/professor position, with a focus on which programs are currently available and when to apply for them.
A presentation on the legal prerequisites for attaining a professor position in Germany and the "Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz" with time for your questions.
Search committee panel discussion
A panel discussion made up of professors with abundant experience in serving on search committees. The panel will potentially receive example CV’s from virtual applicants to start the discussion, and this session will provide attendees with ample opportunity to ask their own questions regarding the selection process and the relative importance of different criteria.
Several presentations from a range of PIs, (junior) professors and junior research group leaders on how their careers developed. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions.
