Dr. Astrid Löwe
Dr. Astrid Löwe is a chemist and works at Dräger Safety AG & Co KGaA in the fields of sensor technology.
She was born in 1969 in Paderborn and stayed in that area of Germany until the end of her studies in chemistry. The investigation of gas phase reactions in diamond forming flames has been the subject of her PhD in Bielefeld. She changed her scientific focus from flames to ice by being part of the wintering-over team 2000 of Neumayer station in Antarctica (Alfred-Wegener-Institute). Astrid Löwe stayed in environmental sciences until fall of 2002 as a coordinator for the ground-based DOAS*-system BREDOM** at the Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Bremen.
From science to teaching was the next step leading to Jacobs University of Bremen as Head of Teaching Laboratories of Physics and Physical Chemistry lasting until end of 2008.
For private reasons, she moved to Hamburg and took the opportunity to change from academics to industry. In the beginning of 2009, Astrid Löwe started at Nordex Energy GmbH in the R&D department for rotor blades. Main topics for the next 5 years were the development of the Nordex Anti-Icing System and an ice monitoring system for rotor blades.
Since December 2013 she is Team manager R&D at Dräger Safety AG & Co. KGaA. With the development of sensors for flammable gases she is now back to flames again.
