Upcoming EGU General Assembly 2024!

From April 14 to 19, 2024 we - Mahyar, Henrik, and Martina - will attend the EGU General Assembly in Vienna. We will use this opportunity to present results from our research projects and meet our international collaboration partners. Martina will also lead a session about “The ocean and climate variability of the low-latitude Indo-Pacific Ocean during the Quaternary”.

IRQUA Conference 2024!

From January 29 to February 1, Mahyar attended the 3rd IRQUA Conference in Tehran, Iran. As chair of the Scientific Committee, Mahyar was heavily involved in the organization of the conference.

New guest!

In December, Dr. Ting Hao from the Tongji University, Shanghai, will join our group as a guest scientist. Ting will be with us for one year to work on the reconstructions of the East Asian Monsoon. Welcome Ting!

We welcome a new guest to our working group. Kozue Ando is Master student at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences,  University of Tokio. She will spend one month with us to learn some palaeoceanographic proxies.

Research Stay in China

Mahyar is involved in a DFG-NSFC-funded cooperation project on the IPWP and Walker circulation. From September 20 to October 02, Mahyar went to China to work with our cooperation partners in Shanghai, Beijing and Xiamen.

Goodbye Ziye!

Our dear colleague who has been working in our group since 2019 is leaving us to go back to China. We wish her all the best and much success for her future.

Field trip to Bornholm

From August 17 to 24, Di­erk and Mahyar lead a field course for Bachelor studends to Bornholm. The course will address the long-term and eventful evolution of the island that is located at the interface of the Eastern European Platform/Fennoscandian Shield and the Northern European Depression.

Welcome Henrik!

We welcome a new member of our working group. Henrik Sadatzki joined our team as postdoc. He has a strong background in paleoceanography and will work on the effect of sea level changes on the ocean and atmosphere conditions of the eastern Indian Ocean (project INDOCRISIS, DFG).

XXI INQUA Congress 2023

From July 13 to 20, Mahyar and Martina will participate at the XXI INQUA Congress in Rome to present results of their work and meet with colleagues from their international network. While Mahyar is invited to give a keynote lecture, Martina will present a poster with her project results.

Welcome back Peter!

Our dear guest Prof. Peter Clift just arrived for the second phase of his Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg fellowship in Bremen. He will be with for the next three months to continue his work on the "Tem­poral Evol­u­tion of the Asian-Aus­tralian Mon­soon and its Im­pact on Global Cli­mate".

XMAS Conference

Together with colleagues from Xiamen University and Taiwan University, Mahyar is convening a session about “Present and past ocean-atmosphere-climate interactions” at the sixth Xiamen Symposium on Marine Environmental Sciences (January 9 to 12, 2023), where also results of Ziye’s and Martina’s research projects will be presented.

Memorandum of Understanding with the GSI

A memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between MARUM and the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) over the next 5 years. The aim of the MoU is to exchange scientific and technical capabilities in the fields of paleoclimate and geochemistry in Iran and Germany including the onshore / offshore scientific drilling.

ICP14 is approaching

Martina and Ziye are attending the 14th International Conference on Paleoceanography in Bergen, Norway, between August 29 and September 2, 2022, and will present posters on results from their ongoing research projects. Good luck with the weather!!!

Welcome Peter!

Our distinguished guest Prof. Peter Clift from the LSU, USA, has arrived as the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg fellow in Delmenhorst. He will be with us on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week until October and working on his project "Temporal Evolution of the Asian-Australian Monsoon and its Impact on Global Climate".

Geo-Colloquium on Quaternary climate of the tropical Indo-Pacific

On Jul 6, Mahyar is going to show results from simulations and reconstructions of the tropical Indo-Pacific climate on various timescales in the Geo-lecture hall.

Field trip Zagros Mountains and Central Iran

Mahyar, Dierk and Bachelor students from 3rd semester attended a field trip to Iran between April 10 and 24. Within these two weeks, various aspects of geology were addressed, mainly the tectonic and evolution of the Iranian microplates in central Iran, and the Zagros Mountain and the world famous petroleum system and salt domes in south Iran.
