Water sampling

During research cruises the micropaleontology group samples marine microorganisms and accurately measures the conditions under which they have been collected. To this end, we operate sampling equipment and sensors as follows:

Conductivity-Temperature-Depth sensor (CTD)
model SBE 9plus (Seabird Electronics) with maximum deployment depth 6800 m, equipped with sensors for temperature, conductivity, oxygen, fluorescence, turbidity and a bottom contact switch.

Large Volume Water Transfer System Sampler (in situ pumps)
2 units model WTS-6-1-142LV LV08 (McLane Research Laboratories), maximum deployment depth 5500 m, pump performance 5-8 L /min, filter diameter 142mm, GFF, QM-A or other types of membrane filters are usable.

Water sampling rosette (HydroBios)
aluminium frame with eighteen 10 L Niskin-Waterbottles
