About me

I started my work as a physical oceanographer studying energy fluxes from hydrothermal plumes, using a variety of techniques such as CTD/LADCP measurements, turbidity sensors and He 3 as a tracer. This work motivated me to intensify my studies on vertical motions in the ocean, shifting the focus of my work to the temporal variability of internal waves and the associated mixing. Using a combination of ship-based observations and mooring timeseries, I related observed changes in the internal wave energy and energy flux to generation processes such as topography-current interaction or energy input into the internal wave field by the wind. Recently, my work has been centred around the propagation and energy flux of low-mode internal waves in the framework of the Collaborative Research Center TRR181 "Energy Transfers in Atmosphere and Ocean".
