Tuesday, August 25th - Up in the air

Our last day in Torngat Mountain Base Camp started with a zodiac ride in search of ice bergs. So beautiful and fascinating, like a piece of art. Thinking, the moment they were born during the last ice age. Their long journey from the Greenland Ice Sheet will end up here in the Labrador Sea.

Now off to see much younger glacier ice. We flew with the helicopter to Mount Caubvik (the highest mountain in the Torngats, 1650 m). We landed near the front of D’Hiberville Glacier. Two hours is never enough for exploring such an amazing landscape. Cirque glaciers are a very unique type of alpine glaciers, hiding in the north face of the mountain and terminating with a calving face into its lake.

We ended our little exploration by flying over two twin cirque glaciers a few kilometres to the south of Mount Caubvik.

Today by looking at the Torngat plateau from above I felt the spirit of this place deep inside me, the answer to why this place is so special to its people.

Other members of the group went on a hike. See German version.
