The Bremen Ocean Day, organized by the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology and the University of Bremen, allows 500 students to immerse themselves in the ocean and modern marine research.

At the event, the young people can experience first-hand how and about what marine researchers do. Professor Markus Rex from the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven is the leader of the MOSAiC expedition in the Arctic, which he will report on first-hand. Carolin Müller from the Leibniz Center for Marine Tropical Research (ZMT) will present her current research on microplastic uptake in juvenile fish. Professor Rudolf Amann from the Max Planck Institute in Bremen will talk about the fate of tiny algae in the German Bight, and Dr. Florence Schubotz from MARUM - Center for Marine Environmental Research at the University of Bremen will present new findings on black smokers in the deep sea.
