Dr. Miriam Römer, a scientist at MARUM and the Department of Geosciences at the University of Bremen, will receive this year's Hermann Credner Award of the “Deutsche Geologische Gesellschaft – Geologische Vereinigung (German Geological Society - Geological Association – DGGV).

The award recognizes the marine geoscientist's outstanding research on the importance, dynamics, and quantification of free methane in the seafloor/ocean water interface. Miriam Römer consistently combines geophysical, marine geological, and geochemical methods to answer higher-level questions about the methane matter cycle. Her pioneering scientific work in the field of seafloor methane seeps made her an internationally sought-after young scientist in marine geosciences.

The Hermann Credner Award or Hermann Credner Fellowship (endowed in 1960 by Prof. Hermann Credner) is awarded to outstanding young scientists under the age of 40. The award serves to promote further research.
