"Meeresforschung anders sehen"

Researchers of the MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University of Bremen have opened their laboratories, workshops and offices for the Bremen photographer Tristan Vankann. His impressions of marine research are displayed in the House of Science until June 26.

"The aim was to open the laboratories and show the process of research," said MARUM Director Prof. Dr. Michael Schulz at the opening of the exhibition. Where otherwise the results of research would be shown, the process of scientific work is in the focus here. The images show research, but can also stand for themselves.

"For the motives I looked for formally interesting structures in their everydayness," said Tristan Vankann. “No one has ever seen the objects in the pictures in this way, because you simply cannot find them in this way,” Vankann explains his way of working. He has staged some things, and zoomed others in so closely in order to conceal optical reference points. "I wanted to capture the fascination of science in images," explains Vankann, "although people would be exciting too, of course."
