In order to coordinate their international cooperation, MARUM scientists from two projects have now met with their international partners.

Taiwanese marine scientists, mainly from the National Taiwan University in Taipei, are cooperating with scientists in Germany (GEOMAR and MARUM) on the research topic methane hydrates since 2009. Workshop number 8 (TaiGer VIII) in Bremen is focussing specifically on the preparation of the common SONNE cruise SO226 using the seafloor drill rig MARUM-MeBo200 during October/November in Taiwanese waters. More than 30 gas hydrate scientists will meet for two days to discuss the drilling locations and the scientific work at the continental margin of Taiwan.

At the same time, researchers from the project "Environment-Climate-Human interactions in southern Morocco" (ECHo), which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research within the framework of the joint German-Moroccan program for scientific research (PMARS), will also meet. At MARUM, Dr. Ilham Bouimetarhan coordinates the project. During the two-day workshop, researchers from the universities of Beni Mellal, Agadir and Bremen will discuss initial results and plan further research initiatives in the field of marine sciences and hydrology.
