More than 100 experts from academia, industry and the public administration have now discussed establishing a new School of Marine Engineering and Maritime Studies of the University of Namibia (UNAM) at a Stakeholder Conference that took place in Walvis Bay, Namibia. UNAM’s aim is to educate young Namibians to be prepared to foster the country’s blue economy. During the first day of the conference, Namibia’s minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources, Bernhardt Esau, expressed his support for this new development. Among the international experts invited to share their experiences in this sector, the University of Bremen, one of UNAM’s partner institutions, was represented by Prof. Dierk Hebbeln, who reported on the University of Bremen’s and MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences' experiences in setting-up the multidisciplinary Bremen International Graduate School for Marine Sciences (GLOMAR).
