Dr. Soeren Ahmerkamp is awarded the Briese Research Prize for his doctoral thesis. The jury honored Ahmerkamp's research into oxygen transport in the sandy seabed of the North Sea and how it influences the activity of the bacteria living there. For this purpose, he combined laboratory tests, model calculations and field measurements, for which he developed a special device for observing the seabed. Ahmerkamp wrote his doctoral thesis as part of a cooperation between the MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences in Bremen and the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Marine Microbiology in Bremen.
