Feedbacks between sedimentation and deformation during continental extension
The project aim is to better understand feedbacks between deformation and surface processes in the context of rifting. We also address unconformities in the sediments and how they are related to the different rifting modes. To do this, we couple a 1D landscape evolution numerical model to a 2D visco-elasto-plastic numerical model of the lithosphere. Preliminary results show that efficient surface processes increase offsets at faults and increase their lifespan, but also favour lower crustal flow. Both effects have important implications for the margin geometry and influence the timing of the different rifting phases.
