Field characteristics

Lejeunecysta paratenella Benedeck 1972

Field characteristics:
Light brown to almost colourless cyst, pentagonal in outline tending to be broader than long. Smooth cell wall. Apical structure thickened or in the form of two granules. Two antapical horns could have thickened walls. Cingulum conspicuous defined by low denticulate ridges.

Dimensions: length: 55.0 – 62.5 μm, width: 57.5 – 68.75 μm.
Motile affinity: probably formed by a Protoperidinium species.
Stratigraphic range: Late Oligocene to recent

Comparison with other species:
This species can be recognised by its smooth cell wall, thickened apical horn, distinct cingulum that has denticulate ridges. It most closely resembles Lejeunecysta oliva but can be distinguished by having denticulate rather than smooth cingular ridges.
