| I'm a marine and aquatic consultant in an environmental consultancy company in the Netherlands. During my master in Biology, I already did an internship with them, and I enjoyed the vast array of different topics I could work on. After my studies, I had the opportunity to do my PhD on the biological carbon pump at AWI and MARUM, where I could dive deep into my topic and was able to go on several cruises. In 2018, I moved back to the Netherlands and started as a consultant at Bureau Waardenburg. Consultancies try to answer questions from governmental, non-governmental and commercial organisations. We do fieldwork, write reports, organise workshops, and invent new tools to improve monitoring or to enhance nature. Bureau Waardenburg also works together with scientists on applied scientific topics, such as wind parks in the North Sea and nature restoration. I am currently working (amongst others) on the ecological status of the Dutch estuary, carbon sequestration in salt marshes, and organising field expeditions. |
