Nina Stark, PhD Student
"I participated in the Plan M at MARUM/GLOMAR mentoring program 2009.
With Prof. Jane Rickson (Cranfield University, UK) as my mentor I experienced an outstanding mentoring with focus on international career development, networking and how an academic career can be managed without giving up a private life. Besides the direct mentoring, the Plan M program offered excellent soft skill courses which provided the perfect framework to improve, e.g., presentation skills. Last but definitely not least, the meetings with the Plan M mentees group were a unique chance to discuss problems, difficulties or successes related to work and/or the work-private life-interface in a confidential environment. The Plan M at MARUM/GLOMAR program was a great benefit for my development as a young female researcher and had a high impact on my career and professional maturity."

"I participated in the plan m mentoring programme from Feb 2010 to Feb 2011. During the programme, I had three very fruitful meetings with my mentor who gave me a lot of good advice in terms of career planning strategies and the evolution of unique features. The professional courses like ?research funding?, ?career planning?, ?self presentation in academia?, etc. were organized exclusively for our group and helped us to reveal some gender related obstacles and to evolve approaches to handle them. Our group of twelve women consisted of PhD students as well as PostDocs with diverse background. Within short time, we merged closely so we were able to profit from the exchange of our personal views and experiences. In summary, plan m provided me with many skills being necessary to reflect and pursue my career path which made it definitely worth the investment of time."
