DOLAN Configuration
The DOLAN system consists of the following subsystems:
A) Sensors
The different sensors can be devided in two groups, the sub sea sensors and the meteorological and housekeeping sensors.
The sub sea sensors are in general connected via CAN bus telemetry to the DOLIX telemetry computer while the other sensors are connected via RS232 directly.
B) CAN bus telemetry
The CAN bus telemetry has been developed to connect several sensors on a 4 wire cable on a distance up to several kilometers.
B) Telemtry computers
There is the ORBCOMM telemetry computer with four srerial RS232 interfaces. It is based on a microcontroller. A second more powerful computer has been developed, the DOLIX computer. LINUX as operating system provides a more flexible system.
C) Satellite Links
Currently are three satellite links installed, Iridium, Orbcomm and Inmarsat mini-C
D) Power Supply
The power supply has been split into two indipendent systems, the low power 12V system and the high power 24V system. Both systems have solar panels and a battery as a buffer. The 24V system has a wind generator in addition. The 24V supply is used for power consuming acoustic data communication to deep sea sensors as well as for DOLIX.
The following Sketch shows only the sensors and the telemetry links on the DOLAN buoy. The power supply is not shown
