Jade / Elbe 2010

The MARUM SD4 cruise to Jade and Elbe (June 16 - 24 2010) aimed at an in-situ observation of different aspects of hydro- and sediment dynamics at different shallow water marine environments in German waters. Measurements were carried out in co-operation with the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau) and with the Institute for Marine Resources IMARE aboard RV Senckenberg and RV Waterpeil.

The main objectives of the cruise were:

1. To quantify the effect of local turbulence and concentration on the dynamics of suspended particullate matter, floc size and acoustic properties

2. To relate micro scale events (turbulent bursts) to small to medium scale morphodynamics (bedform dynamics)
