Thematic areas
MarTech addresses the following thematic areas with respect to marine technology:
- transport of large loads under water (incl. exchange of systems and components) and manipulation of heavy weights
- computerized manipulation (incl. docking
- breaking through rocky crusts
- navigation (and positioning)
- communication, computerized remote operations concepts
- sensor technology
- assurance of long life spans for systems and components (material, maintenance, intelligent components)
- energy supply (from low to high capacity requirements, across large distances, local power generation)
- sustainability, environmental compatibility, and marine technical impact assessment
- access to research ships and allocating sampling areas for long-term tests as well as joint access to available test facilities; specification and set-up of new test infrastructures.
At the forefront of these efforts are investigations of the deep sea and the exploration and production of:
- gas/oil
- metal resources; marine mining
- gas hydrates
These task fields are complemented by:
- qualification and training
- communication within the network, public image, and training
- networking of national expertise
- public relations work
In these areas, MarTech applies experience and results obtained from existing projects such as SUGAR ("Submarine Gas Hydrate Resources"), ISUP ("Integrated Systems for Underwater Production of Hydrocarbons"), and H-ROV (Hybrid Remotely Operated Vehicle), among others.
