On Sunday the Icebreaker Party will open the IMOG 2009
in the ancient town hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (built 1405 – 1408).
We arranged an exclusive tram which brings you from Hotel Maritim to the Icebreaker. Departure 17:50

About the Town Hall of Bremen:
The Town Hall and the statue of Roland on the marketplace of Bremen in north-west Germany are outstanding representations of civic autonomy and sovereignty, as these developed in the Holy Roman Empire in Europe. The old town hall was built in the Gothic style in the early 15th century, after Bremen joined the Hanseatic League. The building was renovated in the so-called Weser Renaissance style in the early 17th century. A new town hall was built next to the old one in the early 20th century as part of an ensemble that survived bombardment during the Second World War. The statue stands 5.5 m tall and dates back to 1404. (from World Heritage; http://whc.unesco.org)

About the Upper Hall:
For centuries the council of the city gathered in the Upper Hall. Here was the place where decisions were met, contracts signed, judged and delegates from other countries welcomed.
Nowadays the precious Upper Hall (41m long, 15m wide and 8m high) is used for official celebrations, receptions and concerts. The Mayor of Bremen regularly invites the citizens of Bremen on several occasions.
However, our Town Hall is not a museum. It is a living place at which for more than 600 years, the people of Bremen have shaped the politics of the oldest city republic in Europe. And it has always been done with a cosmopolitan view, a readiness to take on responsibility and a open-minded, liberal spirit.

Today we are honored to welcome you here to celebrate the start of IMOG 2009 in Bremen. We are looking forward to an excellent conference.

About the church Unser Lieben Frauen:
Bremen`s oldest Parish Church was constructed under Archbishop Unwan (1012-1029). In the mid-12th century it was transformed into a basilica. After 1230 under Archbishop Gerhard II. (1219-1258) it was extended into an early gothic hall church with three naves and a second tower in the north. Until appr. 1400, Unser Lieben Frauen court yard was the center of urban life, with the church serving as council church. Its cellar is one of Bremen`s oldest constructions.
