Terms of Access

According to the Human Potential - Access to Research Infrastructures (ARI) Programme, only individual researchers and research teams conducting their research in the Member States of the Community, except for those based at German institutions, and Associated States (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia) are eligible to access the Infrastructure. These teams can also include non-European citizens who are working in one of the above countries. An ARI grant enables these researchers to use the broad variety of analytical facilities including both technical and scientific support. The grants are generally restricted to short visits between 2 weeks and 2 months duration except for the participation in graduate courses. Longer visits may only be granted in exceptional cases and require prior written approval of the European Commission.

Funding covers the following costs:

  • Use of the specialised research facilities as shown on this web-page, standard laboratory, and office amenities.
  • Scientific and technical assistance related to the analytical facilities; general scientific support within the field of paleoenvironmental research.
  • International travel as bus, train and plane tickets by Economy fare. Visiting scientists need to book and pay the travel tickets themselves. These costs will be reimbursed upon arrival.
  • Lodging during the stay in Bremen. Young visiting scientists will be accommodated in students´ residences. For senior visiting scientists, Lodging during the stay in Bremen. Young visiting scientists will be accommodated in students´ residences. For senior visiting scientists, accommodation will be organised in the guesthouse of the University of Bremen.
  • Subsistence costs during the stay in Bremen. These costs include a predetermined amount of money related to daily expenses which will be covered at the end of the stay. All claims will be reimbursed in Euro.
  • The financial support includes no salary.

Visiting scientists are expected to publish the results based on their research activities related to Paleostudies within a reasonable time in the open literature acknowledging the support of the ARI Programme. Furthermore, the program fosters communication and cooperation between visiting and Bremen researchers of related fields. These contacts are a good opportunity to establish active partnerships and joint future projects, in particular with Eastern European Scientists.
