Gas Bench

The Gas Bench, coupled to a Finnigan MAT 252, is used mainly for the meassurement of the C-13/C-12 relation of DIC from seawater and pore water. 30 samples a day, including 10 standards can be meassured

FAQs about the Gas Bench:

1.) How much water is needed?
We need 1ml of sea water and 0,5 - 1 ml of pore water

2.) What is the accuracy of the meassurements?
The long-term standard deviation of our internal standard is < 0.1‰

3) Which standards do you use?
We use a Solnhofen Limestone which is calibrated against NBS 19 as internal standard and a sea water from the deep Atlantic Ocean.

4) How are the samples pre-treated?
The sample vial has to be filled up to the top without any air bubbles. Than the sample is poisoned with mercury chloride. After closing the vial it should be sealed with wax and kept at 4C until meassurement
