Stable Isotopes

In the isotope lab. of the marine geology group, 3 Massspectrometers MAT 251 and 252 are coupled with Carbonate preparation devices Type "Kiel" or "Bremen" resp. They are mainly used to determine the isotopic composition of carbon and oxygen from foraminiferal tests or bulk carbon from deep sea sedimente and from corals.

2 Massspectrometers DELTA E and DELTA plus are coupled to element analysers to meassure the Carbon- and Nitrogen-Isotopes of deep-sea sediment samples.

A Gasbench with another MAT 252 Massspectrometer.is used to determine the carbon isotoe compostion of the DIC from Sea water and pore water from sediments.
