Real-time communication link

The actual Assembly is designed to perform autonomous measurements with a fully equipped pressure housing (embedded system, network components various power and communication interfaces). Real-time communication with the sea-bottom towed instrumentation (down to 300 m water depth) is realized using a high-speed communication link via several kilometres (up to 10 km / 6.2 mi) of standard signal transmission cable (armoured coax-cable).

The communication unit is a plug and play Industrial Ethernet SHDSL extender. It is designed as a transparent extender for 10/100BaseTX networks. This unit provides the possibility to re-use existing standard 1-wire signal transmission cable with a high data rate at long distances.

This design offers following advantages:

  • 10 / 100BaseT (Ethernet)
  • Distances up to 10 km (6.2 mi)
  • 192 kbit/s up to 2.3 Mbit/s Auto Speed Detection
  • Galvanic Isolation
  • Redundant Power
