Biomarker Pioneer Award 2009

2009 Biomarker Pioneer Award
presented at the 24th International Meeting on Organic Geochemistry,
Bremen, 11th September 2009

The ad-hoc award committee decided to equally share the 2009 Biomarker Pioneer Award among two young scientists. Alex Sessions and Alon Amrani (both at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena) were honoured for the excellent oral presentations of their highly exciting biomarker findings on the molecular isotope geochemistry related to the hydrogen and sulphur cycles:

A. Sessions and Xining Zhang
Large variations in lipid D/H ratios associated with microbial heterotrophy

A. Amrani, A. Sessions, and J. Adkins
Analysis of compound specific sulfur isotopes by GC/ICPMS – A new tool for studying the global sulfur cycle

The award was presented by Geoffrey Eglinton, who stimulated inauguration of the Biomarker Pioneer Award and sponsored it in 2009, and Jürgen Rullkötter, co-organizer of the 24th IMOG. The prize money of 2.000 Euro will be equally shared among the recipients.
